Bob Nyabinde 'The Headmaster's secret

Bob Nyabinde
To many, he is still a headmaster at JR Davies and other schools within the Midlands town of Kwekwe. Others think his stage name is, but a nom de plume coined after the hit song, Chabuda Hapana from the 2002 album Pane Nyaya. Bob "The Headmaster" Nyabinde, is alive and well, from what was observed at a joint show with Dino Mudondo last Friday at Jazz 105.

Buoyed by the popularity of the first offering, a second album, Ndiratidze, was released in 2004, followed by Teerera in 2006. You ain’t seen the last of me –– Maneta

Maneta
BIG Brother Stargame evictee, Maneta Mazanhi, looks good and she knows it. The vivacious 21-year old has been keen to “set the record straight” with the local media after her acrimonious exit from the reality show. Her interview with IndependentXtra this week was no exception as she sought to charm her way out of the sticky situation she finds herself after peeving fans of the show.

Her charm offensive seems to have worked if the joke doing the rounds about Maneta “turning” erstwhile hostile entertainment journalists is anything to go by. They are now eating out of the palm of her hand, so the saying goes, and it isn’t difficult to figure out why.

And the 2012 World’s Ugliest Dog Is....

Snoop Dogg busted for weed in Norway

BREAKING NEWS
0627_snoop_dogg_02
Snoop Dogg was detained at an airport in Norway this morning after customs officers discovered ... wait for it ... SNOOP WAS PACKIN' WEED!!!

The Agder Police Department tells TMZ ... Snoop was stopped at customs at the Kjevic Airport in Kristiansand ... where officials discovered 8 grams of weed.

According to the cops, anything less than 15 grams is merely punishable by a fine -- and in Snoop's case, the violation ran him 12,000 Norwegian Krone ... which converts to roughly $1,980.13.

We're told Snoop was cooperative ... and quickly took care of the fine ... because he probably carries that kind of money in his back pocket.

FYI -- Snoop is in the country to perform at the Hove Festival at 10:30 PM local time ... which still gives him a few hours to find some replacement weed.

In his lawsuit, Sturtevant says he originally made about $50,000 per year -- but eventually got a raise to $63,000 per year.

The rep also claims Sturtevant turned down a very handsome severance package -- vacation pay plus $10k -- when he was fired last month.

We're told Sturtevant got the boot due to poor performance.

New York club looses liquor license over Chris- Drake fight

0614_getty_chris_brown_drake
From now on, the only bottles flying at W.i.P. nightclub will be of the non-alcoholic sort ... because officials in NYC have officially suspended the club's liquor license.

The New York State Liquor Authority (SLA) ordered the booze ban last night, citing "ten separate assault and altercations beginning on March 11 2012, and leading up to a large brawl at the club on June 14, 2012" -- the night of the Drake vs. Chris Brown fight.

The SLA says it has hit the club with 17 Alcoholic Beverage Control Law violations ... including drug activity (twice) ... lack of supervision ... using the name "W.I.P." without SLA authorization ... and "becoming a drain on police resources."

According to the SLA, the ban is "effective immediately ... no alcohol can be served or consumed on the premises." Following the brawl, the club was shut down by the NYPD ... now it seems highly unlikely the place will ever open its doors again. TMZ

Water saved my eyes - Roki

Roki says milk possibly saved his eyes from serious damage after Maneta poured detergent all over his face.
When his eyes started stinging after the detergent had been poured into them Roki ran out screaming, “My eyes! My eyes!” He said that he initially poured lots of water on them and then remembered something his mother had told him as a kid.

“I remember she said something about milk and so I called out for milk. Someone thought I had gone crazy and asked me why I wanted milk but I told them to just bring it. I poured that into my eyes and that helped a lot.”

Iconic liberation struggle hero Nelson Mandela last week had a blissful meeting with Zimbabwean youthful preachers, Uebert Angel and Emmanuel Makandiwa. Mandela, turning 94 in three week’s time, rarely entertains visitors these days because of old age and ill-health. But he invited Angel and Makandiwa for a meeting last Friday at his Qunu rural home, where he now spends most of his time.

It was not possible to get a comment from Makandiwa or his spokespersons. Spokesperson for Angel, Michael Mubatsa, confirmed the meeting. “Yes, I confirm the two prophets met Madiba just like they have met different Heads of State and world leaders. But I do not know why they were invited in this particular case. I am sorry I also do not have details of their discussions,”he said.

It was just an irrational reaction that happened, she said.

Roki was ushered into the VIP area of the club through a back entrance where he chilled a bit with close friends before he came out onto the DJ’s platform much to the ecstatic delight of guests. There were loud screams as he greeted Zimbabwe and thanked people for all the support.

Search for Miss Curvy begins

Over 50 women from across the country have already registered for this year’s Miss Curvy Zimbabwe which is set to take place in Harare on October 20. Organiser of the event, Mercy Mushaninga of Catwalk management agency, said registration of participants was ongoing and the response has so far been good.

She said curvy women aged between 19 and 34 were being accepted for the event, which runs under the name Ngoda Models.
“We are looking for Zimbabwean models that are naturally curvy, not just big or fat people,” said Mushaninga.

She said the pageant was launched last year after the realisation that most women shy away from modelling because of the perception that the profession was for tall and slender women.

“Being curvy should not be taken as a liability,” Mushaninga said. “Such people should take this opportunity to showcase their gift.”

Manyeruke sees red over album release

Baba Mechanic Manyeruke
The granddad of gospel music, Baba Machanic Manyeruke, is a bitter man after embattled record company Gramma Records released his latest album, “Musandidaro”, onto the market without his consent.

Manyeruke is accusing the recording company of releasing the album to Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) without a legally binding agreement. “The company was supposed to hold the material in trust as we were supposed to agree the terms first, but to my surprise, the material was on the Sunday Edition news bulletin without my consent,” he fumed.

On Roki ground

On Tuesday, Zimbabwe’s hopes of landing another Big Brother cash prize were shattered after the country’s two representatives, Roki and Maneta, were disqualified for breaking one of the game’s cardinal rules.

In a scene resembling that of kindergarten children, Roki and Maneta splashed fluids on each other after having been warned on several occasions by Biggie to stop squabbling and feuding.

They both shamefully returned home last week after receiving treatment, Roki for his “bleached” eyes and Maneta for anger issues. As Zimbabweans were last week united in denouncing the two for their deplorable behaviour, their expulsion once again brought to the fore the question of whether housemates have any national obligation and, if so, to what extent?

But while the anger by Zimbabweans at their own children is understandable, it is important to highlight the shortcomings of this season’s game as well.

Tuku Musical Mesmerises fans

Tuku’s emotionally charged musical Masango Bodo exploded in Harare last night. The show, running for about an hour and a half, fuses various art forms into a magical tapestry of tales involving over 20 artists and featuring the vocal talents of Oliver Mtukudzi himself, daughter Selmor, Pauline Gundidza, Munya Mataruse, Chiyedza Chevatendi and others.
MasangaBodo premiered last night at 7 Arts Theatre in Harare. Dates for future performances will be announced in due course and a DVD of the show will be made available soon.
Pauline Gundiza sings 'Nyarara Kuchema' to the Mtukudzi family.
The show starts off with a performance of Ndizvo Zvazviri by Jackie Nyamutumbu then Tuku comes in with his opening song, Yanhopi.
A poignant moment in the musical is when Tuku and his wife take a seat, centre of a darkened stage. Tuku has a hand on his wife’s shoulder. A spotlight shines upon them and Pauline Gundidza walks in singing Nyarara Kuchema (stop crying).

In our minds, we are immediately taken back to the painful loss that the couple had to endure a few years ago, that of their son, a talented musician in his own right, Sam Mtukudzi, who died in 2010. As Pauline powerfully delivers the lyrics to the song, tears form in Tuku’s wife’s eyes.
